Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College was established in the year 1993 with an intake of 30 students for the course of B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).

Presently department is offering B.Tech and M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department, right from its origin, has been granted ample funds for setting up the department laboratories and other infrastructure. Department’s infrastructure has an enormous growth since 1993 with no looking back. In today’s time, the department is having state of art laboratories, which are best in the region. The department is ISO 9001: 2000 certified. The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department has created quality electronics professionals and entrepreneurs. Department is having strong alumni employed in public, private and educational sectors, bringing prominence to their alma-mater.  The highly professional and dedicated team of the department works with a sense of responsibility and commitment to do extremely well and attain success in this age of technology and development.

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) offers a very comprehensive syllabus, from introductory courses to seminars and projects focusing on vital research areas. Apart from imparting conventional technical education and a rich learning environment, the emphasis is laid on co-curricular activities, such as debates, quizzes, workshops, technical competitions etc. for making the students fit for the highly competitive job market. The main aim of the department is to provide a sound knowledge of modern electronic equipment and technology and to imbibe professional and social ethical values in the students. The department also aims to establish a strong association with the industry, to bridge the gap between academic and corporate segments. The department also tries to inculcate leadership qualities, team-work, self-confidence and good communication skills among the students.

Workshops organized by Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department:

Energy Auditing Workshop

A three-day workshop on ENERGY AUDITING was inaugurated at BBSBEC. The workshop is being organized by collaborative efforts of the college’s Electrical department, National power training institute (NPTI) and Northern Industries Textile Research Institute (NITRA). These workshops are part of a series of workshops to be organized as per the MOU between the college and NPTI, Nangal.

Speaking on the inaugural session of the occasion, head of the department Dr. Gursewak Singh Brar said that in today’s scenario energy is required to be conserved and in this conservation everyone has to play a vital role. He also conveyed his regards to Mr. Vikas Sharma, BEE certified energy Auditor & Principal Scientific Officer NITRA, Mr. Paurush Godhar, BEE certified energy Auditor & Junior Scientific Officer and Mr. Raj Kumar Saini, Asst.Engg. BEE certified Energy Manager NITRA who will be the resource person for this 3-day workshop. He also thanked Er.C.R.Meena Principal NPTI Nangal and Prof B.S.Bhullar for his contributions in organizing this seminar.

Asserting the need for conservation, Maj.Gen. Dr G.S.Lamba, Principal of the college said that energy conservation is of prime importance these days and even in the college we have taken steps to make an efficient use of electrical energy which will also involve active participation from students too and in this process, the students who have attended the workshop will indeed be the torchbearers. Around 100 students will be made aware of energy conservation and will take part in hands-on energy audit exercises.

Fusion, Brainstorming Quiz & Techakshri Event

Department of Electrical Engineering &Department of Computer Science  Engineering Organized a Brainstorming Quiz & Techakshri event named ‘Fusion’ under the aegis of the Institution of Engineers (IEI) BBSBEC Student Chapter on 13.09.2017. Total 38 teams participated in the event and three teams were selected winners and given cash prizes. Dr. GS Lamba, Principal BBSBEC appreciated & congratulated the students for organizing such events. In the end Dr. GS Lamba, Principal BBSBEC, Dr. GS Brar, HOD EE, and Dr. Baljit Singh Khehra, HOD CSE department distributed the prizes to the winning teams. Participation certificates were also given to the participating Students.

1. An Industrial Visit to Marahar Power Control Pvt. Ltd, Dhuri.

A Visit was done at Marahar Power Control Pvt. Ltd, Dhuri. In this visit, practical infrastructural labs of whole Electrical Engineering were shown to the students and their applicability for students in their six weeks /six months industrial training was told to them. Students learned the application of concepts into practical means.

• The Institution of Engineers (India) Student Chapter has been established in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department of the college in which presently 55 students have become members.
  
• Students participated in a seminar organized by IEI, Engineer’s Bhawan, Chandigarh titled “Engineering Solutions towards Environment Protection” on the occasion of “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY” on 22nd July 2016.
  
• The Student Chapter of IEI organized a presentation competition in the department on “Latest Electronics Trends” in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department of the college on 24 Aug 2016.
  
• The Institution of Engineers (India), Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre celebrated “Engineers Day – 2016” on 15th September 2016 in the premises of the Institution of Engineers (India), Chandigarh. The theme of this year’s “49th Engineers’ Day – 2016” was “Skill Development for Young Engineers to Reform the Core Sector.
• IEI student chapter organized a Quiz Competition in the college auditorium in Feb 2017.
• B.Tech. Students presented papers in All India Seminar on Recent innovations in Wireless Communication & Networking during February 23-24, 2017 organized by Computer Science and Engineering Department in association with the Institution of Engineers (India).
• IE(I) student chapter of Electronics and Communication Engineering ECE department of BBSBEC FGS along with The Institution of Engineers (India), Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre celebrated “Engineers Day – 2017” on 15th September 2017 in the premises of the Institution of Engineers (India), Chandigarh. The theme of this year’s “50th Engineers’ Day – 2017” was “Role of Engineers in developing India.
• The event – ‘Fun with technology’ was organized by the students of IEI chapter (ECE) on 24th of January 2018. In this event, 23 teams from all the branches participated enthusiastically.
• A one day workshop on “Mathematical Modelling using PetriNet & Optimisation of systems” was organized jointly by Chandigarh and Punjab State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College (BBSBEC), Fatehgarh Sahib on April 20, 2018.
• All India one Week workshop on “Advanced Wireless Communication and its implications” was organized by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib and IEI Punjab and Chandigarh State Center from 10th Sept 2018 to 14th Sept 2018.
• Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College organized an All India Seminar on Role of Embedded Systems in Wireless Sensor Networks in the Seminar Hall, CSE Dept. It is scheduled for 2 days, 11th-12th October 2018 comprising of 4 sessions by eminent speakers.
