FDP on Cyber Security and Big Data Analytics

The Department of CSE & ECE organized a Faculty Development Program in the upcoming area of “CYBER SECURITY AND BIG DATA ANALYTICS” from 26th Feb-2nd March, 2018. The FDP is sponsored by Institute of Engineers,India and Dr. Gurpal Memorial Education Trust. The aim of the FDP is to provide a platform for the delegates to learn the basics , applications and role of Big Data Analytics. The Faculty will also gain an insight into the basics of internet structures , Cyber Security and Network Forensics.
During the Inaugural session on 26th Feb,2018, Dr. Baljit Singh, HoD(CSE) and Dr. R S Uppal, HoD(ECE) welcomed the Chief Guest Dr.Gurdeep Singh Hura, Professor, Deptt of Mathematics & Computer Science, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, USA. Dr. Baljit Singh addressed the participants and highlighted that the FDP will nurture the research aptitude and competency development of the young faculty members, either doing research or planning to undertake research work under the domain of Computer Science and Electronics & Communication. Dr R S Uppal motivated the faculty to organize and attend such development programmes. Dr Tara Singh Kamal, Council Member, IE(I), Er. S S Mundi, Secretary, IE(I) , Dr A P Singh, Professor SLIET, Longowal and Dr Lakhwinder Singh, Dean Academics ,BBSBEC Fatehgarh Sahib graced the occasion with their presence.
In the first session of the FDP, Dr. Gurdeep discussed the importance and challenges of Big Data Analytics. He also shared his knowledge on the areas such as Internet protocols, cyber crimes, cyber security and cyber space laws. The session was planned in a manner to help the faculty in teaching and enhance their research work. In the practical session, the faculty was given hands on experience in forensics tools including Encase.
In the last session of the day, Dr A P Singh addressed the participants and highlighted the need for secure systems. He further discussed the consequences of attacks that include viruses, worms, spyware, rootkits, Trojan horses etc.
