Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) scheme of Govt. of India

Tree Plantation Drive and Free Medical Camp

A tree plantation drive and Free medical camp was conducted on 13th February, 2020 in the adopted village Saddo Majra, by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engg. College Fatehgarh Sahib under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) scheme of Govt. of India

The members of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Scheme Dr. Niraj Bala, Prof Rajni Bala and Prof Mukul and Mr Rachhpal singh along with the students visited the village Saddo Majra.  Dr. Niraj Bala Coordinator of UBA elaborated that their college has adopted five villages under the UBA scheme and they are working for the welfare and improvement of these villages.

S.Ranjit Singh, Sarpanch of the village and S. Gurnam Singh Cheema school teacher of Saddo Majra participated in the event. Principal Major General (Dr.) GS Lamba, VSM, highlighted the importance of such camps.

 

Two days All India Technical Workshop on ‘Application of Power Electronics in Electrical Systems’ (Jan 2019)

The workshop was organised in association with Institute of Engineers Punjab and Chandigarh Center.  Chief guest Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Prof. from NIT Kurukshetra gave a brief introduction on the use of power electronics in power systems. His talk was on Smart Grid systems and how these systems have revolutionized energy sector. Er. S.S. Mundi, honorary secretary IE(I) was also present along with convener Dr. G.S. Brar on this occasion. The event was attended by around 30 participants from nearby colleges. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college Maj.Gen.(Dr.) G.S Lamba, said that it is indeed a matter of proud that with association of IE(I ) the college has been able to organize many workshops and in that series this workshop has also produced the desired results as  the participants  and the students have got an in-depth knowledge of various aspects of usage of latest technologies. He also appreciated the work of all the organizers for successfully organizing this seminar.

SHUTTERBUG-2019

A Photography cum Drawing Exhibition SHUTTERBUG-2019 was organized by the Photography Club on 11th October, 2019. This was the 9th edition of SHUTTERBUG. The entries were invited under different categories for photography and drawing. In photography, there were two modules – Mobile photography and DSLR photography. A total of 30 entries were received in all categories.  During the valedictory function, winners were given trophies and the dignitaries included were Dr. Lakhwinder Singh (Dean Academics) and Dr. G.S.Brar (HOD, EED).

Project Exhibition

Electrical Engineering department has organised a Project Exhibition on 19/11/2019. The projects made by final year students of B.Tech Electrical Engg students were displayed. The Head of dept Dr. GS Brar attended the exhibition along with the panel and praised the students for their hardwork. A total of 16 projects were displayed in different categories like Automatic solar panel rotating model, Li-Fi technology, Home security system and robotics. The exhibition was organised by faculty coordinators –  Prof. Tejpal Singh Cheema and Prof. Simranjeet Singh.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive 2019 at BBSBEC

Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive (EAD) 2019, by IIT Kharagpur was held in association with Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College on 4th October, 2019 at Mata Gujri College. The EAD also coincides with the launch of International Business Model Competition Empresario (IBMC). Here business ideas get opportunity to win the prize and incubation opportunities to the tune of INR 2.5 crore. Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur is a non-profit student organization established to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship. With over 50 start-ups incubated within 10 years of inception, IIT Kharagpur is proud to present The EAD, one of the major flagship events. celebrated entrepreneurs and industrialists Mr. Bhavish Sood and Mr. Subinder Khurana were the experts for the day, they impelled the students and made them envision entrepreneurship as a career. The words of celebrated entrepreneurs and industrialists Mr. Bhavish Sood, and Mr. Subinder Khurana, were remarkable.  Students from various departments like EED, CSE and ECE participated in the event

Dr. Niraj Bala, Prof. Rajni Bala  and Mr. Peeyush Gaba organised whole event and also motivated the students to start their own business setups. Major General (Dr.) GS Lamba,VSM, Principal, BBSBEC hadput his great efforts to make the event successful.

Project Exhibition

Projects of B.Tech Final year students of Electrical Engineering Department demonstrated their projects in the Project Expo. Students showcased their technical skills at the platform. The projects were based on Arduino controllers, 8051 Microcontrollers, IoT, Electric Motors etc.

Ambush Cup 2018

Ambush Cup , an yearly event , was organized by the Department of Electrical Engg. In this, 20 events were organized , in which participants of 4th,6th, 8th and faculty were there. 8th sem was declared the winner of Ambush 2 cup Trophy.

 

International Conference on Eco Sensitive Developments in Science and Technology “ESDST-2017”

International Conference on Eco Sensitive Developments in Science and Technology “ESDST-2017” was Organized from 20-21 January 2017 at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College , Fatehgarh Sahib

Chief Guest Dr Sarit K Das, Director IIT Ropar inaugurated the Conference. Guest of honour Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, VC SGGSWS University, Dr Jaspal Singh Dean PAU and Dr S.N.Singh Professor IIT Kanpur were also present.  In his inaugural address, Dr Sarit Kumar Das said that any researcher who wants to be good in the field should be courageous to think out of box while perseverance and honesty will be the key to his success. Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia while addressing the audience stressed the need of the environmental awareness among the mass so that the freely available resources should not be abused. Speaking on the occasion Principal of the college, Maj. Gen. Dr G.S.Lamba said that college is fortunate to be in sync with the academic policies of IIT Ropar and he assured that the faculty and students will put in their entre efforts so that academic excellence and exposure to students be given. He also thanked Member Secretary S. Amarinder Singh Libra for his constant support and guidance while organizing the conference.

Visit to Guru Gobind Singh thermal power plant

A total of 40 students from B.tech 6th Semester(6EE2)  and M.tech Power System along with Prof. Ranvir Kaur, Prof. Mandeep kaur Virk, Prof. Manpreet Singh and S. Charanjit Singh got an opportunity to visit Guru Gobind Singh thermal power plant, Roopnagar on 9th March , 2016.Guru Gobind Singh thermal power plant(Coal Based), has an installed capacity of 1260 MW comprising of 6 units with 210 MW each. The first unit was commissioned in September, 1984. During March 1985, the second unit was commissioned and in later years four more units were added. The station received the Incentive award for reducing fuel oil consumption in 1999. The station also received the Shield and excellent performance by Prime minister of India during 1986-87 for achieving 70.08% PLF against then 53.2%. The plant has its source of water supply from Nangal Hydel Channel. It explores various areas in the field of Generation and bridge the gap between theory and practical.

Awareness Program

An awareness campaign was conducted on “say No to Plastic” and  use of solar energy in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and  NSS  club of  Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College Fatehgarh Sahib.

The members of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Scheme Prof Rajni Bala and Prof Amarjeet along with the students visited the village SaddooMajra.  Dr. Niraj Bala Coordinator of UBA elaborated that their college has adopted five villages under the UBA scheme and they are working for the welfare and improvement of these villages.

Dr. APS Sethi Coordinator NSS also deliberated on the issue of use of plastics and need of solar energy use

National Conference on Advances in Electrical & Electronics Communication Engineering”, (AEECE-2015)

Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Electronics & Comm. Engineering of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a National Conference on “National Conference on Advances in Electrical & Electronics Communication Engineering”, (AEECE-2015). The conference was scheduled on February 20-21, 2015. The objective of the conference was to provide a platform to researchers, practicing engineers, academicians and students to deliberate on latest developments in the field of electrical, electronics and communication engineering. The output of the conference in the form of published papers was provided.The conference was bestowed with the presence of distinguished academia along with experts from the industrial organization such as PSPCL, IETE, DRDO and BSNL etc.  An exhibition was also planned along with the two-day conference where the participants got an opportunity to interact with people from renowned industries. Few such agencies such as Signals and Air    Defense Artillery Department, PEDA, PSPCL etc. had given their consent to demonstrate their engineering capabilities.Students presented their papers in form of Poster Presentation.  Students displayed their projects along with people from renowned industries. and won prizes in the events. Best paper and Best project awards in student’s category were also presented for encouraging students.

ETAP Training

A two day workshop on ETAP from 29th to 30th April was organized by Electrical Engineering Department . The main objective of the workshop was to build simulation skills in field of power systems. In this fast changing world where there is a need of stable power, the workshop was of lot of significance as the staff had hands on experience in building a power station from scratch and control of it. Simulation tests pertaining to fault analysis, transient analysis, stability and protection were done. The faculty had undergone test simulations and it will be helpful in culminating practical and theoretical knowledge. A lot many thesis problems were also discussed with the ETAP representative Mr Hartej.
Dr Gursewak singh Brar (HOD) ensured that regular development of staff is important and hence such programs will be a regular feature in department.

Faculty Development Program

Electrical Engineering Department organized five-days PTU sponsored Faculty Development Program on “Recent Trends in Electric Drives and Power System” from 6th – 10th July, 2015. All faculty members of Electrical Engineering Department attended this FDP. It was compulsory for the students of M. Tech Power System (Regular, Batch-2013) who are pursuing their thesis work.
