Campus Incubation Centre

The aim of the Campus Incubation Centre (CIC) program is to enrich the project work development and provide patenting support services within the environment to explore or publish their innovative ideas, which can bring changes in the form of new-ness in technologies being used. Further, Incubation centre is established to facilitate the commercialization of research and development projects undertaken by the incubating companies. The centre serves as generator of intellectual property for BBSBEC. Intellectual Property (IP) can be a patent, software code, copyright, design registration, developed product or alike.

The Centre is intended to complement other innovation and technology initiative in the region. Key feature include: the opportunity to leverage academic, R&D expertise, access to specialized, affordable facilities, student placements and recruitment, and network development with other start-ups in the region and more widely, business mentoring from prospective incubate companies.

PROCESS OF IMPLEMENTATION AT BBSBEC FGS

GROOMING

During first semester 06 interactions and 06 workshops will be offered by the Patent Service Provider for capacity building in area of PATENTING. This activity will need the involvement of mainly pre-final and final year students so that they get knowledge and importance of patenting

Information submission

Applicants, who are current faculty or students of BBSBEC FGS will submit patentable-information to CIC through their respective departmental R & d officer. This activity will be done every week in each department. R & D officers will submit the patentable-information to the office of Dean R & D for further assessment. This patentable information will be protected by an endorsement stating non-disclosure agreement by both applicant and R & D Officer. Specified format is in Appendix 1.

Consideration

Each application carrying ideas for patenting will be reviewed by an internal review committee constituted by Dean/Principal. The selected ideas which seem of some worth will be sent forward to the patent service provider for profession vetting. After their survey/landscaping filing of provisional patent will be undertaken.

Patenting Process

A patent for an invention is the grant of property right to the inventor. There are three types of patents under which applications can be submitted.

Utility patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof;

Design patents may be granted to anyone who invents a new original and ornamental design for an article of manufacture; and

Plant patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers and asexually reproduces and distinct and new variety of plant

Instructions

The title of the invention, which should be as short and specific as possible (no more than 50 characters) should appear as a heading on the first page of specification if it does not otherwise appear at the beginning of the application.

Detailed description of the invention must include a written description the invention and of the manner and process of making and using it, and is required to be in such full clear concise and exact terms as to enable any person skilled in the technological area to which the invention pertains or with which it is most nearly connected to make and use the same. Detailed description of the invention must be set forth the precise invention for which a patent is solicited in such manner as to distinguish it from other inventions and from what is old. It must describe completely a specific embodiment of the process, machine, manufacture, composition of matter or improvement invented and must explain the mode of operation or principle whenever applicable. The best mode contemplated by the inventor for carrying out the invention must be set forth.

The specification must conclude with a claim or claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter that the applicant regards a s the invention. The portion of the application in which the applicant sets forth the claim or claims is an important part of the application, as it is the claims that define the scope of the protection afforded by the patent and which questions of infringement are judged by the courts.

When there are drawings, there shall be a brief description of the several views of the drawings, and the detailed description of the invention shall refer to the different views by specifying the numbers of the figures and t the different parts by use of the reference numerals

The claim or claims must confirm to the invention as set forth in the remainder of the specification and the terms and phrases used in the claims must find clear support or antecedent basis in the description so that the meaning of the terms in the claims may be ascertainable by reference to the description.
