Applications of Power Electronics in Electrical Systems- 15-16 Janaury, 2019
Two Days workshop on the Applications of Power Electronics in Electrical Systems was organized by the Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre, Institution of Engineers (India) in collaboration with the department of EE, Baba Banda Sing Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib on Janaury 15-16, 2019 at Baba Banda Sing Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib.
This workshop provides a platform for the exchange of information and knowledge on the innovations in Power electronics and their applications in different domains of electrical drives, Smart grids and Electrical Vehicles. Maj. Gen. (Dr.) GS Lamba VSM motivate the students to have an innovative thinking to cater to the needs of industry as well as to march along with the changing scenario of technical world . Convener and HOD EE, Dr G S Brar introduced how today smart intelligent drives along with smart grids have change the impetuous of Engineering as miniaturization of a control circuit and has increased the capability of any controlling scenario in the field of electrical engineering. Dr. Kalaiselvi J., assistant professor IIT, Ropar was the chief guest and started with the introduction to Power electronics and its applications to electrical Dr. Simi S.L Assistant Professor at NITTTR, Chandigarh enlighten us with converter and their control topologies. Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Professor, NIT Kurukshetra shared his expert views about the need of smart technology, smart vehicles and smart grids in India. In valedictory ceremony, co convener of the workshop Prof Ranvir Kaur highlighted all the events which were held in these two days and and thanked all the participants, researches and organizers.

Renewable Energy Technologies: Perspective and Challenges- 16-17 November, 2018
An all India seminar on the Renewable Energy Technologies: Perspective and Challenges was organized by the Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre, Institution of Engineers (India) in collaboration with the department of EE, Baba Banda Sing Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib on November 16, 2018 at Baba Banda Sing Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib.
Maj. General (Dr.) G.S Lamba VSM said renewable energy is an upcoming field and researchers have shown many ways to harness RE using technology . He also appreciated the work done by the electrical engineering department in organising the seminar . Convener of the seminar Dr.GS Brar( HOD electrical engineering ) said that the department is privileged to have organised this event with Institution of Engineers(I). Co convener of the seminar Prof. Navneet Kaur Panag gave the vote of thanks and thanked all the participants,researches and organisers . The proceedings of the seminar were unveiled by Dr. T.S. Kamal, Er. Janak Raj Garg, Er. S.S. Mundi, Dr.G.S.lamba and Dr.Lini Mathew.
Key note speaker of the seminar, Dr.Lini Mathew, Head and associate professor at NITTR at, Chandigarh enlightened the audience about the modern era grids. She also discussed about the technologies used and the components of the modern era grids. A total of 50 papers were received from different states of northern india including Punjab, Haryayna, Gujrat and Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Inderpreet kaur, Professor and head, EE department, Chandigarh University, Gharuan and Dr. Yadwinder Singh Brar, professor in electrical engineering and director in-charge at the IKGPTU, main Campus, Jalandhar chaired the session and appreciated the work done by the researchers. Dr. Jha retired professor and Principal NIT , Jalandhar discussed about the current scenario of renewable resources of energy in different states of India. Dr. Jha chaired the session along with Dr. Lakhwinder singh. Er. Parv arora gave special presentation on solar energy and its uses.Conference highlight that renewable energy is an upcoming field and researchers have shown many ways to harness RE using technology.
