Research Policy
BBSBEC RESEARCH POLICY 2021-22
PURPOSE
To promote the culture of research and innovation amongst the faculty, students and staff and to introduce various incentive schemes for the Research and Consultancy Project works carried out in the respective year.
OBJECTIVES
- To develop the culture of research and Innovation in the institute.
- To establish one interdisciplinary Research and Innovation Centre in the institution.
- To establish Institution’s Innovation Council under R & D in the institute.
- To facilitate faculty and researchers in carrying out their research activities through various incentive schemes.
- To motivate the faculty and students to write high quality publications with high impact factor, citations, SCI/Scopus indexed/web of science.
- To encourage collaborations with other higher engineering institutions/Industries and Incubation Units at the international and national level.
- To motivate the faculty to write the research projects thereby enhancing the research funding from Govt agencies and industries.
- To carry out village oriented research under AICTE, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Programme.
CUSTODIAN OF POLICY
The existing research policy has been revised for the year 2021-22 with a purpose to promote and uplift the standards of research and innovation activities in the college. All research related activities in BBSBEC are governed through the Office of Research and Innovation Center and IQAC.
INCENTIVE SCHEMES FOR FACULTY
The incentive scheme for the faculty of the college is as below:
FINANCIAL SUPPORTS FOR ATTENDING CONFERENCES:
- The faculty member shall be motivated to attend conference(s) at international/national level organized in/by the institute/society of international/national eminence
- Registration fees and TA/DA will be given for attending one national conference in a year
- Amount of Rs. 50,000/- once in three year will be given to a faculty member for presenting paper in the international conference abroad. Further, in this case the applicant must have applied for travel grant(s) for the conference from at least two funding agencies
INCENTIVES FOR QUALITY PUBLICATIONS:
In order to motivate the faculty members towards research and publishing their research findings in reputed journals with impact factor, financial incentives will be given to faculty members.

- The reward will be given to the First author/PhD Supervisor/Corresponding author. In case two supervisors, the reward will be shared by the both. The copy of the research papers should be put on to the college website and must be kept in the department library.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALLOWANCE (PDA):
Faculty members will be given Professional Development Allowance for updating their research/ teaching/ academic/ certifications or professional capabilities required for self and institutional development to the tune of maximum of Rs. 10,000/- every year.
PATENTS FILING SUPPORT:
Faculty is encouraged to file patent and for it, all expenses for the first year are borne by the Institute.
MATCHING GRANTS (MATERIAL/HUMAN RESOURCES/EQUIPMENT):
Provision of matching grants for human resources/equipment/material, on the basis of sponsored research (Up to max 50% of the sponsored grant) can be made depending upon the importance/need of the project. Recommendation for the same shall be made by the committee comprising of one external expert, concerned HOD and the Principal.
TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR THE SPONSORED RESEARCH PROJECTS AND THE INDUSTRY CONSULTANCY PROJECTS:
- The research/industry consultancy work will be carried out under the Head (Principal) of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib
- Every doctorate shall apply for a minimum of one government/affiliated university funded project
- The faculty members can apply for internal project in the college with an aim to apply for external funding also. The required seed money for internal projects will be provided by the college as mentioned in the Table below. The project proposals would be invited in the start of academic year with the prescribed submission time. One project from each department with the recommendation of the Principal would be submitted to the Research and Innovation center for approval.
- The revenue generated will be deposited in the college account. This is done to avoid misuse of funds. The college will provide the remuneration to the respective faculty as per the below table, based on the revenue generated after the completion of every consultancy work.
- Faculty should motivate the students towards participation in industrial consultancy projects.
- TA/DA for project presentation is given to every faculty if not given by funding agencies.

INSTITUTION’S INNOVATION COUNCIL (IIC) PROGRAM
All Activities to be done by IICs are categorized in three types-
- IIC Calendar Activity
- MIC Driven Activity
- Self- Driven Activity
IIC Calendar Activity – MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC) prescribes an annual activity calendar for IICs. In each quarter Minimum 3 activities out of scheduled activities are to be completed by an IIC to receive full score. Institutes are encouraged to do a greater number of activities from calendar beyond the prescribed minimum. It is expected that institutes which are in the emerging phase of the innovation ecosystem- will follow the calendar plan vividly.
MIC Driven Activity – MIC schedules various activities from time to time on its own or in collaboration with partner organization and government departments. All MIC Driven Activities are mandatory. These activities are scheduled on IIC portal under MIC Driven Activity tab.
Self- Driven Activity – IICs are encouraged to plan their own activities apart from IIC calendar for promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in their campuses. They may have collaborations with different agencies, departments, and Industries for organizing seminars, competitions, workshops, training sessions relevant to entrepreneurship and innovation. To score maximum marks/star in a particular quarter, it is necessary to complete at least 3 activities under Self Driven Category.
Financial Support for IIC activities
- To be a star performer, it is mandatory to conduct the IIC activities. Further these activities are required to upload for ARIIA ranking, NAAC, NBA and NIRF.
- The committee for handling all the IIC work has been constituted and will be responsible for carrying out the activities and uploading of the data in the IIC portal.
- Therefore, it is mandatory to conduct two activities under Institution Innovation Council by each department in a semester. The IIC member from his/her respective department along with the IIC coordinators will organize the activity and further upload on the IIC portal.
- The honorarium of Rs. 2000/- to Rs. 4000/- per hour will be given to the speaker for the expert lecture/training session. In case of offline sessions, the TA will also be given as per rules.
- Members of IIC cell are required to attend the various training sessions as prescribed by MoE and should become the Innovation Ambassadors. Training fee and the TA/DA will be given.
- Five students’ form each branch must become the innovation ambassador.
- Each department has to arrange one field visit to the industry/incubation unit in one semester. It must be a mandatory activity for every student.
THE INCENTIVE SCHEME FOR THE STUDENTS OF THE COLLEGE
INCENTIVE FOR QUALIFYING ENTRANCE EXAMS FOR HIGHER STUDIES:
Any student who qualifies GATE/GRE/NET/CAT/GMAT during his/her four year graduation period will be given a reward of Rs. 10,000/-.
FINANCIAL SUPPORTS FOR ATTENDING CONFERENCES:
For presenting paper in an international conference/ national conference/ technical symposium in India, the registration fees and the part of TA/DA will be given. The financial support upto maximum Rs. 10,000/- per student will be provided. One student can take the support for one event in two years.
RESEARCH PUBLICATION
For publishing a paper in the refereed journal, a student will get Rs. 2000/-, if only single author. For more than one author, -Rs. 4000/-would be given and shared by all.
The research policy will come in force from 01st April, 2021 and any amendments, if required, can be done annually, and to be reviewed and approved by IQAC of the college.
