IIT BOMBAY SPOKEN TUTORIAL CENTRE
Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering college is running IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Labs online program since 2016. It is a project of NME-ICT, recognized by MHRD and Govt. of India, and developed at IIT Bombay. The Spoken Tutorial Project is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, LibreOffice etc. via an easy Video tool – Spoken Tutorials.
Benefits :
- Training Programs run on Self Learning Mode, no expert is required to teach the students. Faculty coordinators from various departments enroll students & students download online tutorials & generate test request.
- ST Lab courses are mapped with B.Tech course subjects of IKGPTU &MRSPTU syllabus for teaching.
- Spoken Tutorial acts as e-Resource for students to understand the technical concepts along with providing students with certification from IIT Bombay for appearing and clearing the test.
- Students learn all lab courses through ST Tutorials in the lab hours and also in their free time while online Test is conducted in college campus.
- By adopting Spoken Tutorial training programs, college is also fulfilling MOOCs requirement as suggested by UGC and AICTE.

Test Conducted on 6th November 2019
IIT-Bombay Spoken Tutorial online test was successfully conducted at BBSBEC campus in Computer Centre Labs of CSE Department on 6th November 2019. The test was conducted in collaboration with IIT Bombay. BTech students from Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering branches appeared for the online test. This online test provided platform for the students to test their subject knowledge and skillset. Objective type test of 45 minutes was conducted for softwares such as Java, Python, C++ and QCAD. Overall, 442 students of 3rd, 5th and 7th semester participated. Students, who cleared the online test, were able to download their certificates directly from IIT Bombay-Spoken Tutorial website. Faculty coordinators, Invigilators and students made every possible effort for the successful conduct of the test. The students completed their training from July-Nov 2019 through softwares and video lectures available from IIT Bombay. Dr. G.S. Lamba (Principal) congratulated faculty and staff for the same and appreciated their whole-hearted and sincere efforts in making such activities successful. Dr. Kanwalvir Singh Dhindsa (Professor & Head, CSE Department) motivated the students to take part in such activities for their overall technical development and exposure to latest technologies.
Test conducted on 5th April 2018
IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial online test was successfully conducted @BBSBEC campus in Computer Centre Labs of CSE Department on 5th April 2018. Students from various branches (CSE, IT) appeared for the online test for free softwares (part of IIT Bombay FOSS – Free open-source software Project). Training for FOSS softwares was given by faculty in this current semester from Jan-April 2018. This online test provided platform for the BTech. students to test their subject knowledge and skillset. Objective type test of 45 mins. was conducted for softwares such as Linux, Python, Advanced C++, Java. Overall, 250 students of various branches of 4th, 6th sem. participated in this one-day event. Faculty coordinators, Invigilators & students made every possible effort for the overall conduct and training of the softwares through softwares and video lectures available from IIT Bombay. Many students, who cleared the online test, were able to download their certificates directly from Spoken Tutorial website. Principal BBSBEC, Major Gen. (Dr.) GS Lamba congratulated faculty and staff for same & appreciated their whole-hearted and sincere efforts in making such initiatives successful.

IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial online test was successfully conducted @BBSBEC campus in Computer Centre Labs of CSE Department on 10th April 2017. Students from various branches (CSE, IT, EE) appeared for the online test for free softwares (part of IIT Bombay FOSS – Free open-source software Project). Training for FOSS softwares was given by faculty in this current semester from Jan-April 2017. This online test provided platform for the BTech. students to test their subject knowledge and skillset. Objective type test of 45 mins. was conducted for softwares such as Linux, C, Latex, PHP & MYSQL. Overall, 230 students of various branches of 4th, 6th and 8th sem. participated in this one-day event. Faculty coordinators, Invigilators & students made every possible effort for the overall conduct and training of the softwares through softwares and video lectures available from IIT Bombay. Many students, who cleared the online test, were able to download their certificates directly from Spoken Tutorial website. Principal BBSBEC, Major Gen. Test Conducted on 3-4th Nov. 2016
Test was successfully conducted @BBSBEC campus in the Computer Centre of CSE & IT Dept. on 3-4th Nov. 2016. Students from all branches (CSE, IT, MECH, ECE, EE) appeared for the online test for free softwares (that are part of IIT Bombay FOSS – Free open-source software Project). Training for FOSS softwares the training for which was given by faculty of all departments in the college in this semester from July 2016. This online test provided platform for the students to test their subject knowledge and skillset, as online test was similar to the test environment of MNCs. Objective type test was of 45 mins. & was conducted for softwares such as C++, Latex, SciLab. Overall, 800 students of various branches of 3rd sem., 5th sem. and 7th sem. participated in the two-day event. Faculty coordinators, Invigilators & staff made great efforts for the overall conduct and training of the softwares, the training for which was given in this semester (through slides and video lectures available from IIT Bombay). Many students from various branches, who cleared the online test, were able to download their certificates directly from spoken Tutorial website.
